Francesca Preston resides in Petaluma, California, with her husband and stepson. She dropped out of a poetry MFA program more than a decade ago, returning instead to India and an era of exploration. She is a self-taught artist, assimilating techniques and perspectives from cultures and people throughout history.
Under the alias Grafista, Francesca works as a writing consultant for people who are interested in honing their way with words. Her favorite assignments involve her skill as a nomenclatress. She believes that the right name for a thing, an idea, a venture or a self can enable its safe passage.
Francesca spends a portion of her time in the foothill county of Calaveras, where she has become a community organizer for historical preservation. Her family tends a ranch and homestead in Calaveritas, settled during the gold rush by their Italian and Irish ancestors.
